How Will We Grow (Part 3)

The Invite Campaign
We will encourage our people to invite their friends, neighbors, and co-workers to church and we will make it easy for them to invite others to church.

Sometimes the pendulum swings too far.
Human tendency is to over-correct.  One of the dangers a driver faces as his car veers slightly off of the road is over-correcting - jerking the steering wheel too hard in the direction opposite of the direction they have veered off.  This can cause all sorts of serious accidents from entering oncoming traffic to flipping the vehicle.
Many churches emphasize inviting people to church to the exclusion of encouraging people to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  An over-correction is to call people to share the gospel to the exclusion of simply inviting someone to church.  An Either / Or approach is wrong - an approach that includes inviting AND sharing is the balanced healthy approach.

I may have pushed the pendulum too far.
I recently recognized that unintentionally I had almost exclusively been leading New City to share the gospel and never encouraged people to simply INVITE others to church.  A potential danger here is that we condition people to think that there is no value in inviting - fearful to share the gospel, some church-goers then do nothing... they neither invite nor share.  So, this year we will attempt to bring balance and call our people to do BOTH.
